On Friday 27 July 2001, Mr George Donaldson, CBE, stepped down as Chairman of James Donaldson & Sons Ltd, the major timber importing, sawmilling, processing and distributing group.

To mark the occasion Mr Donaldson was presented by the company shareholders with the gift of a crystal rose bowl, engraved with the names of the previous Chairmen, going back four generations to the company’s founding in 1860.

Commenting on Mr Donaldson’s contribution to the company and to the local area, Mr Henry McLeish, Scotland’s First Minister and local MP/MSP said:

“His leadership and vision for the company have created the strong position you are now in …and I acknowledge his work and the contribution he has made to the quality of life in the Levenmouth area.”

The role of Chairman of the Donaldson Group of companies will now be assumed by the current Chief Executive, Mr Neil Donaldson, who will combine the roles of Chairman and Chief Executive.

Commenting on his new position and the future, Mr Neil Donaldson said:

“ I am honoured that the Board have appointed me Chairman and Chief Executive. I am now the fifth generation of the family to lead the company and I intend building on the solid platform that has been left for me.”
